On the way home found a Korean cosmetics and skincare store and refilled my stock of Nature Republic’s super amazing aloe gel! Read my review here!
So far, I’ve only tried out the Super Sugar Shower Gel and I love it! To be fair, I was most excited about this product as I’ve heard and read that it’s ultra gentle and moisturizing. And they didn’t lie! It not only provides the skin with moisture, but cleanses thoroughly and there are no traces of chemicals. Probably because just before this I was using the crap from Body Shop. Skin feels smooth, supple with a touch of light fragrance.
I have combination skin and soon after I put makeup on I get a thin film of grease and a lot of shine. I’ve tried matte primers and that worked ok. I’ve tried blotting paper but that’s ok. I’ve tried moisturizers and I don’t even know if it made a difference in terms of oil secretion. I’ve tried powder foundations and setting powders and they were ok too. Everything was ok until the NYX Mineral Finishing Powder. A light weight airy powder that blends smoothly and keeps makeup on all day. Most importantly, it eliminates shine. NYX has very good quality products for its reasonable price. Weird that it doesn’t come with a puff and they don’t sell them there?
Comes in Light/Medium and Medium/Dark.
Please suggest other helpful skincare tips for combination skin if you have any. Thanks!
Japanese department store, Sogo is celebrating their 28th birthday by having a Thankful Week to offer all their customers a mega sale! Stopped by last night with boyfriend LN to check out the swag.
I could’ve spent an entire day just shopping on the first and second floor. The cosmetics and skincare holy land. You can find international brands such as Estee Lauder, M.A.C, Benefit, YSL, Dior, Chanel, Bobbi Brown, NARS, and Japanese ones like Shisheido, Haba, Ipsa, Kanebo, and others.
Upon arrival, I dashed to my favourite counter, NARS! I love their products as it meets my two main criteria for makeup: easy to apply and lasting! So, for the Thankful Week sale, NARS offers package deals for a very reasonable price. I got a few (too many) new things. The packages are great because you get to choose the shades you want, unlike the normal sale sets you get where they’re fixed products in specific tones.
Duo Eyeshadow in Cordura
For my usual everyday look, I use the NARS eyeshadow duo in Silk Road. Cordura is slightly darker, and will be great for a brown smokey eye with a hint of shimmer!
Eyeliner Stylos in Koala
They ran out of the pencil eyeliner that usually comes with the package so I got a liquid eyeliner instead! Even better for me! I get built up oil over my eyelids when I’m out all day, so pencil eyeliners normally smudge and I can a raccoon eyes despite using eye primer. I only use pencil liners to blend with my shadow and never use it just to line my eyes. Liquid glides on so much better and makes it to the end of the day. Since I’m a firm believer of the liquid eyeliner by Dolly Wink in Deep Black, I chose an asphalt grey. Again, I really like the colour! My only fear is the felt tip that looks a bit hard. I tend to prefer bristle brushes when it comes to products like this.
Blush in Taos
The product itself looks a bit dark, but it blends well and is a bit more dramatic than their best seller Orgasm. I absolutely love this colour! Matches well with my new tanned complexion!
Gentle Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover
Reminds me of the Bi-Facil by Lancome. I did not like that. Not too thrilled about this, but nonetheless, of course I will try it out!
Makeup Removing Water
Super duper excited about this! Since I got eyelash extensions I’ve been looking for something that cleans makeup off without rubbing my eyes sore. I use the Shu Uemura Skin Purifier Beauty Oil. It’s amazing! Takes off makeup instantly! The only downside is that it always tarnishes my lashes and they aren’t able to last as long as I’d like. I really hope NARS’ Makeup Removing Water is as miraculous as it says it is!
So after all this, it rang up to be around $900 something. Only $100 short from the free Sun Kissed Gift Set! The decision to makeup the difference was an absolute no brainer!
Sheer Lipstick in Dolce Vita
I have full lips and I don’t like to draw too much attention to them so I stay with relatively neutral and safer shades. Sheer lipstick gives just a trace of colour without completely staining them. I already tried this out and it’s ultra smooth! Slightly translucent with a little shine for that natural, kissable feel.
Meeting the purchase of $1000 criteria I got the Sun Kissed Gift Set free! Yay! The set includes the Pro Prime Pore Refining Primer, the Body Illuminator in Laguna and the Blush Duo in Hungry Heat and Desire! I’ve used the Blush in Desire before, and found that though it looks bright pink, it blends well onto the skin for a summer look. Everything else, I’m looking forward to trying out! Best thing is, it’s not those shitty little free sample stuff, they’re proper size!
Thanks to my wonderful boyfriend for all my new stuff! Product reviews will ensue!
Time flies when you’re having fun. You have no idea that you’ve been directly under the sun for hours when you’re in cool, clear waters.
I look like a lobster. How attractive. Thanks to my bestie CS, for getting me the best after sun care. Nature Republic’s 92% Aloe is so soothing. Straight out of the fridge, this cooling gel moisturizes and calms the burn. It’s light and absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy film. You still get a bit itchy from the irritated skin, but you can’t complain too much. After all, your own damn fault to begin with!
Hope this helps and the peeling and itchiness won’t be too bad.
I highly recommend this product for anyone who’s been in the sun for some (long lengths) of time. It’s also a good natural moisturizer for day use normally. Refresh, soothe and quench your skin’s thirst!
I have a love for tanning. It feels great when the heat hits you and beads of sweat drip off your sun kissed skin. The only problem is, though it feels great, it is dangerous and causes premature aging. Yikes!
I rub on a mixture of tanning oils and tanning lotion on my body which has worked out fine all these years. As for my face, I need something stronger with a higher SPF. I’ve tried way too many products throughout my tanning career and have not yet found the perfect solution. I need a non-greasy formula that can last. How hard can that be? I find that a lot of things I’ve tried in the past is so oily, I end up breaking out the next day. Ugly, uncomfortable, and combined with a slight burn results in agonizing pain.
I am in search for a BB cream that is light yet provides enough protection and if God is willing, some kind of coverage to even out my skin tone. I now use the Bobbi Brown BB Cream with SPF 35. It’s the best thing I have used so far, but it still is a little heavier than I’d like. I still get a bit burnt if I stay under the sun all afternoon. I guess the best thing to do is keep reapplying! Annoying, but what’s a girl to do with no better option?! Suggestions anyone? Please?
Angelina Jolie apparently carries the BRCA1 gene that predisposes her to a 87% chance that she will get breast cancer. Instead of just sitting and wishing that luck is on her side, she chooses to have a double mastectomy. She had a hard time when lost her mother to breast cancer a few years back. Angelina, mother of 6, is such a brave woman!
By maknig a smart yet brave decision to undergo surgery, Angelina has inspired women around the world who also have the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene to choose preventive mastectomy. Breasts are beautiful, but without them, doesn’t make you any bit less feminine.
I admire someone with such courage and beauty and heart. She is thankful to Brad Pitt for being supportive of her decision. What a wonderful woman! Angie has all my respect!!
The limited edition makeup essential from Giorgio Armani’s Summer 2013 collection is the Bronze All Over Palette.
It reads: Inspired by pleated lamé, this allover bronzer is this summer’s must-have. Use all over for a sun-illuminated complexion.
First thing’s first, holy smokes! This costs $700HKD. I debated with myself for a while before losing to my shopping urges. I am so glad I did, as this is a compact little case of all you need for a bronzed summer glow. The case comes with a top tier bronzer and a bottom tier eyeshadow trio.
Bronzer: I love this because there is so much shimmer with fine sparkles than big chunks of glittery bits that you sometimes get in bronzers. Not to mention, the ripple effect is just almost too pretty to ruin! The application is smooth and sheer, and blends in perfectly with Asian skin tone.
Eyeshadows: In Satin Beige, Rose Bloom and Mineral Bronze. What I like about light shade eyeshadows is that you can build it. It’s more forgiving if you mess up and is easily fixable. I try to limit the makeup I put on my eyes (especially in the day) as it’s so hot in Hong Kong that it tends to get a bit melty! Everyone knows that the less you have on, the less there is to run! So I quite like the combination of these eyeshadow tones. The lightest tone is my favourite as I like to use it to accent the inner corner of my eye and underneath the bottom lashes.
I’d give it a 8/10.
I’m looking and trying out more summer heat appropriate makeup and will share with you my experiences soon! If you have tips and advice, give me a shout!
